Laboratory for Advanced Space Systems at Illinois

LAICE-F

LAICE-F (Lower Atmosphere/Ionosphere Coupling Experiment- Follow-on) is a 6U CubeSat that will study the interactions of gravitational waves in the atmosphere generated by weather systems. Virginia Tech and UIUC are collaborating on the satellite and instrument developments.

Understanding the relationship between the energy and momentum of these waves and their sources and effects in various altitudes of the atmosphere will increase the knowledge of the coupling processes between the atmospheric regions. The payloads aboard LAICE will measure density and temperature and the variations of both in the mesosphere. LAICE-F has completed a Systems Requirements Review and a Preliminary Design Review.
