An exciting time in academic space exploration marks a milestone this summer as LASSI closes the books on an era with the exit of its director, Dr. Michael Lembeck. Having delivered the Carruthers Geocoronal Observer Student Solar Monitor (COSSMo) to NASA, the Illinois Educational Development Unit (iEDU) to 4H/Extension, the Space Entanglement and Quantum Annealing Experiment (SEAQUE) to AEGIS, and the DarkNESS thermal control system prototype to FermiLab, LASSI graduate students led programs and mentored undergraduates in the development of space flight hardware. Despite limited support and sparse resources, the students developed innovative solutions for several significant engineering challenges. We look forward to watching them bring their special talents solving future aerospace engineering problems.
