The first Vertically Landed Rocket Challenge was held on Nov 13 in Rantoul, IL. Three teams from Illinois State University and UIUC competed in the challenge. Solid rocket propelled stages were dropped from a drone at 60 ft altitude in an attempt to make a controlled soft landing. Students demonstrated their aerospace engineering skills in the assembly, analysis, and test of their rocket stage entries. The challenge will be held again this coming spring.
